Meet Chris Nickels

Through his many voluntary efforts in Mount Pleasant, Chris has worked to improve the living environment for his fellow citizens.  In 2004 Chris was a member of the Blue Ribbon Committee for School Accountability (BRC) commissioned by the Mount Pleasant Town Council.  The Town Council directed the BRC to assess the current and future educational needs of Mount Pleasant schools and determine how these needs were being met by the Charleston County School District (CCSD). The BRC submitted a comprehensive report to the Town Council.

In June 2006 Chris graduated from Leadership Charleston, a year‐long program that analyzes issues that impact our area while focusing on fundamental leadership principles. Leadership Charleston is designed to develop leadership skills and increase knowledge of community issues including political, social and economic affairs.

Chris also served on the Town of Mount Pleasant Board of Zoning Appeals. Board members are appointed by the Mayor and Town Council. The Board hears appeals for relief from the requirements of the zoning code.

Most recently, Chris was appointed by Mayor Harry Hallman to the Mount Pleasant Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee comprised of business leaders and community representatives. The role of the Committee is to provide input into the Comprehensive Plan from a variety of community stakeholder perspectives and to serve as a conduit to disseminate information about the plan to Mount Pleasant residents.

Chris has served on his Home Owners Association (HOA) and remains an active member of the Park West community.
