Dear Mr. Nickels:
It has been over four years since The BRC for School Accountability issued its report to Town Council. As you recall, the 32 page report outlined three recommendations on how the Charleston County School District (CCSD) could improve educational quality in Moultrie District 2. The recommendations called for the funding and completion of the 2005-2009 Building Program, increased funding at the classroom level and greater self-governance.
Your work yielded considerable results. Educational quality here in Moultrie District 2 is as good as ever. And tough to miss are the beautiful schools located throughout the district. But while much has been accomplshed, there is still much to be done.
Mount Pleasant Town Council envisions Moultrie District 2 as the finest district in South Carolina where educational excellence is the standard and where every child leaves our care with unmatched skills. But this requires vigilance on the part of every citizen and your elected representatives. To this end, I am reconvening the BRC with one mission: to assess the CCSD’s compliance with the recommendations noted above.
The BRC for School Accountability was arguably the most successful special committee ever appointed by Council and I am asking you to serve again. Please complete the enclosed document and return it in the stamped, self-addressed envelope before Octoher 23, 2009.
